Esther Lee
Brown
April 20, 1926 – September 19, 2025
Esther Lee Patterson Brown, 99, of Sweeny, Texas, passed away Friday, September 19, 2025. She was born April 20, 1926, in Wadsworth, Texas, to the late Oran Knox (OK) Patterson and Gladys Lula V. Lowe Patterson.
Esther graduated from Texas Bible College in Rising Star, Texas, in 1943, as Valedictorian. She was an accomplished seamstress making everything from everyday clothing to prom dresses for her family and others. She also crocheted clothes (even doll clothes), afghans, baby blankets and many other types of items. She enjoyed this, even until her 90's. She was a wonderful cook. Esther was a loving wife and mother. She met the love of her life, Marvin Edward Brown, Sr., in Hebbronville, Texas, when visiting her sister and brother-in-law. They were married for 67 years.
To Esther, her family always came first. Whenever she travelled, it was usually to see family members in Texas or Kentucky. She helped organize a Patterson family reunion during Thanksgiving weekend for over 40 years. She enjoyed tracing and documenting the Patterson family tree. She was always available to help support not only her immediate family, but her sisters and brothers. While in Premont she was a member of the Methodist Women's Club and was a supporter of Light House School in West Columbia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Timothy William Brown; and her brothers, Teman Jonathan Patterson, Ira James (IJ) Patterson, and David Lamar Patterson. She is survived by her loving husband, Marvin Edward Brown, Sr.; daughter, Diana Lee; son, Marvin Edward Brown, Jr.; sisters, Madelyne Finch and Ruth Green; grandchildren, Gina Cassaday, Lisa Rector; Randal (Kristin), Chris (Kimberlyn), Jimmy and Connie Grantham; Jared, Jennifer and Brett Brown; Eduardo and Jorge Gomez; 14 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Allison Jones.
