Ernestina Chapa, 94, of Van Vleck passed away December 11, 2024. She was born August 3, 1930 in San Benito, Texas to the late Santos De La Rosa and Cecelia De La Rosa.
The Chapa family originally lived in Harlingen TX until they moved to the Bay City area in 1977. They then moved to Van Vleck to enjoy retirement. She always looked forward to visits from her family especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ernestina was well known in the area for her wonderful homemade tamales.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Maricela Chapa Kubeczka and her son Noel Chapa Sr.
Survivors include her husband Cesar Chapa Sr.; sons Rolondo Chapa (Dareth), Cesar Chapa (Marilyn Ball), Eduardo Chapa (Susie) and Oscar Chapa; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 AM with Rev.
Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Noel Chapa, Joel Chapa, Gregory Chapa, Michael Chapa, Nick Chapa, Alex Chapa, Andrew Chapa, Lilly Chapa.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe.
