Enriqueta "Katie" Ortiz, 75, of Sweeny was born March 29, 1936 in Raymondville, TX. She passed away Sept. 25, 2011 while surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Benito & Fernanda Vitela Cortinas, brother Samuel Cortinas and grandson Robert Barron.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years Vicente Ortiz, Sr. of Sweeny; sons Librado Valdez, Jr. of Aurora, IL & Vicente Ortiz, Jr. of Sweeny; daughters Cynthia Montalbo of Van Vleck & Melinda Valdez of Freeport; brothers Benito Cortinas, Jr. & George Cortinas both of Bay City; sisters Elva Avila, Eva Reyna, Dolores Martinez all of Bay City, Elida Samarippas of CA., & Tina Bargas of Odem, TX; 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 at Taylor Bros. Chapel with Rev. Gerry Cernoch officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Ray Martinez, Andy Martinez, Rocky Martinez, Enrique Barron, Felix Montalvo, George Montalvo, Jr., Raymond Garcia, Jr. & Santos Avila, Jr.
