Obituary

Emaline Rose Reed passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007 at the age of 88, after a lengthy illness. She was born on February 12, 1919 in Pledger, Texas, and is the last of Bert and Maude Rose's seven children. She was a lifelong resident of Van Vleck, and a charter member of the First Baptist Church.

Emaline married Curtis Reed December 15, 1936. They were married for 68 years. She worked in the first school library at Van Vleck. Later, she was instrumental in establishing her church library. Emaline enjoyed genealogy, oil painting and collecting books.

Survivors include daughter, Wanda Laird of Mathis; grandson, Clay Laird (Connie) of Pasadena; and great granddaughter, Madison Laird of Columbus, and Mathis. In addition, she is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Emaline is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Curtis; son, Shelbert; grandson, Curtis Wayne Laird; infant granddaughter, Cindy LaNell Laird; son-in-law, Jim Laird; four sisters and two brothers.

Special thanks are extended to Gwynda Jones, Rosa Lee Coston, Evalyn Jones and Pat Brumbelow for their generous support and assistance. The care and compassion provided by the staff of Mathis Nursing Center and Vista Care Hospice is greatly appreciated.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Russell Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Clay Laird, Joe Reed, Gary Davis, Curtis Dykes, Bill Johnson and Bill Eidlebach.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church of Van Vleck, to the Mathis Public Library, or to donor's choice.
