Elizabeth "Betty" Dowdy, 85, of Van Vleck passed away March 17, 2010. She was born Oct. 16, 1924 in Bishop, TX to the late Oswald J. and Nora Koban Urban. She worked as a clerk for Kleberg County for many years. She and her husband retired to Startzville, TX near Canyon Lake and she had been a resident of Van Vleck for the past 10 years.

Her husband Thomas N. Dowdy preceded her in death. Survivors include daughter Norma Labuda & husband Joe of Van Vleck; son Donald Dowdy & wife Sybil of Hurley, Mississippi; Grandchildren Karen & Jake Goff of Hurley, MS, Christie & Jim Thomason of Alpharetta GA, Sarah Labuda, MD of Little Rock, AR, Meghan & Roye Moran of Spring, TX, Teresa & Daylan Phillips of Hurley, MS & Whitney Dowdy of Hurley, MS; great grandchildren Katie Beth Goff, Reece Thomason, and Connor & Bree Phillips.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6pm to 8pm Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 20, 2010 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Sweeny with Rev. Edward Boineau officiating. Graveside service will be led by nephew Rev. Tom Dowdy 4:00 PM Saturday at the Cranes Mill Cemetery in Startzville, TX. Pallbearers will be Jake Goff, Jim Thomason, Roye Moran and Daylan Phillips. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
