Eliza Pauline Smith Hickey, 93, of Markham, TX, passed away Sunday, July 03, 2011 in Bay City, TX. She was born July 1, 1918 at Sexton, Matagorda County, TX to Thomas Brantley Smith and Irma Jane Turner Smith. She was a life long resident of Matagorda County and retired after many years from the First National Bank of Bay City as the Second Vice-President. She was a dedicated bowler for many years, and attended many out-of-state tournaments. She also was a member of, and held several positions at, the Markham United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Ray Hickey; by her parents: Thomas Brantley Smith and Irma Jane Smith; by 4 children: Charles Ray Hickey, Melvin Ray Hickey, Mary Ethel Hickey and Margaret Pauline Hickey; by 3 sisters: Myrtle Elizabeth Johnson, Leoma Jane Hale and Ethel Louise Goode; and by 2 brothers: Oscar William Smith and Joe Green Smith.
She is survived by a daughter: Martha Jane Robertson and husband Raymond of Conroe; by a brother: Tom Brantley Smith and wife Carol of El Paso; and by 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 5 PM to 7 PM Monday, July 4, 2011 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 5, 2001 at Taylor Bros Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing, TX.
In lieu of the usual remembrances, donations may be sent to the Markham United Methodist Church of to the Hawley Cemetery Assoc., Blessing, TX.
