Obituary
Elba Townsend, 91, was born in Texhoma, TX on January 24, 1920 to Lewis Preston Lloyd and Emma Intha Stapelton Lloyd. Our Mom/Nanaw was welcomed into heaven on November 8, 2011. She was a life long Baptist.
Elba was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Byrd; 2 sons, Jerry Byrd and Galen Byrd; granddaughter, Baby Girl Ray; son-in-law, Joel Ray; parents, Lewis P. & Emma S. Lloyd; 5 sisters, Bertha Lloyd, Zona Springfield, Naomi Lloyd, Ruth Brush and Betty Jo Wortham; brother, T. Lloyd and twin-brother, Ted Lloyd; and by husband: J. E. Townsend. She is survived by sons, Billy Byrd, Mack Byrd, Ted Byrd, and Ned Byrd & wife Elaine; daughters, Dannelle Williams & husband Charlie, Judy Ray, and Seretta Robinson & husband Bryan; by 31 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Elba worked many years in Bay City, TX as Restaurant Manager for Cain's and Wayne's Restaurants. In 1970 she moved to Victoria, TX and managed Wayne's Restaurant for the next 4 years. In the coming years she worked for the TRCA, Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission, and Martin Office Supply. In 2006 she moved to Lockhart, TX and worked for the Lockhart Ministry Food Pantry until her retirement at the age of 89.
She was especially proud of having four of her grand/great-grandsons serving in the military at the same time. She enjoyed many hours of pleasure playing dominoes and poker and attending the horse races. The love and care of her family always was first in her heart. She will be remembered by her family and the many friends that she met over the years.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, November 11, 2011 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Jon Hulbert, Chris Ruleman, Joshua Byrd, David Hain, Collin Hain, and Mason Hain. Honorary Pallbearers are Jeremy Ray, Steven Paige, David Byrd, and Galen Byrd, Jr.
