Edwin Frank Petering, 91, of Bay City passed away May 22, 2015. He was born September 18, 1923 in Hocheim, Texas to the late Henry Petering and Mary Maresch Petering.

He was a 1942 graduate of Yoakum High School and a 1946 graduate of Balwin Business College. He married Joyce Ohrt on May 12, 1953 in Meyersville, TX. She preceded him in death in 1991.

During WWII he served in the US Army 13th Infantry Regiment, 8th Division where he was awarded the Purple Heart for battle wounds received in action on August 25, 1944. He also earned the Bronze Star for Heroic Achievement, The American Theatre Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was a life member of Philip H. Parker VFW Post 2438; life member of Disabled American Veterans; life member of Catholic War Veterans and life member of American Legion.

He had been a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church since 1963 where he served in many capacities and on many committees. He was not only a member but served in many positions for Knights of Columbus Council 3070; Holy Name Society; Society of St. Vincent De Paul and Associates of the Incarnate Word of Blessed Sacrament.

In addition to his parents and wife, two sisters preceded him in death. Survivors include his son, Rev. Michael Petering of Edna, TX; daughters Carol Petering of Beaumont, TX and Kathy Denton & husband Robert of Bellaire, TX; two grandsons and two great granddaughters.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5PM until 7PM Tuesday with a rosary beginning at 6:30 PM at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Petering and Rev. Greg Korenek officiating. Interment will be 4:00 PM Wednesday at the Meyersville Catholic Cemetery in Meyersville, TX.
