Obituary

Edith Hearn, 97, of Bay City, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008. She was born in West Virginia to Duffy B. Hornbeck and Ava Keller Hornbeck. She was a resident of Bay City since 1950 and a member of the First United Methodist Church. In 1911 her family moved to Tehuacana, TX where they homesteaded. Her father became on of the largest farmer/ranchers in the area.

She graduated from the Westminster Junior College in 1930 with a degree in education. In 1933 she married Lewis "Pete" Hearn and became the mother of four children. It was not until the children were grown that she pursued a career in teaching.

Edith embraced her love of nature in arts, craft and gardening. She and Pete loved music – he sang, she played the piano. They dedicated themselves to serving the First Methodist Church and the community. They also enjoyed fishing and taking trips together. Pete Hearn died in 1993 and Edith lived in their Bay City home from 1950 to 2007. She would have been 98 years old this June. She was much loved by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters: Frances Hearn English & husband Bill of New Braunfels and Caroll Hearn of Lake Jackson; by her sons: Charles Lewis Hearn & wife Polly of Palacios and Lee Roy Hearn & wife Rev. Pat Meyers of Delaware; her sister: Frances Hornbeck O'Hara of Baytown; by eight grandchildren: William F. English II, Donald Keller English, Brad D. Watkins, Dax D.
