Obituary

Dovie Lee Hejtmanek, 76 of Ashby, passed away peacefully in her home on February 6, 2007. She was born on January 2, 1931 in Markham and lived in the Ashby area all her life. Along with her three sisters, Dovie was raised by her beloved father Gene during tough times. She grew up in Ashby, graduated from Blessing High School in 1948, and married George Hejtmanek on June 22, 1948. They built a good life farming and raised a happy and close-knit family. She was well known for her tenacious spirit in dealing with kidney disease for most of her adult life, and never let it hold her back from hosting four generations of her family for the holidays. Her beautiful smile will never be forgotten by the many people who love her.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, George Hejtmanek of Ashby, children George Hejtmanek, Jr. and wife Barbara of Houston, Ronald Hejtmanek and wife Beverly of Austin, and Cheryl Horne and husband Michael of Sugar Land, grandchildren Erin Althaus, Jennifer Kriskey, Steven, Rachel, Russell, and Randall Hejtmanek, Meagan and Michael Horne, great-grandchildren, Preston and Emerson Althaus, and Abigail Kriskey. She is also survived by her half-brother Herbert Legg, Jr.

She was preceeded in death by her parents Eugene Spoor and Ethel Legg, sisters Jeannine Vaut, Elaine Winn, and Marilyn Chambless. She was also preceeded in death by her grandchildren Christopher and Matthew Hejtmanek.

Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Bay City at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Reverends Andy and Janell Blair officiating. Interment will follow at Ashby Cemetery. Pallbearers include Brian Althaus, Steven Hejtmanek, Glenn Jurek, Russell Corporon, Louis Hejtmanek & Paul Vaut. Honorary pallbearers include Erin Althaus, Jennifer & Thomas Kriskey, Rachel, Russell & Randall Hejtmanek, Meagan & Michael Horne, and Erin, Emily & Mary Rochford.
