Obituary

Douglas Cissiro Cater, 76 of Palacios, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 1:11 am in Victoria, TX.  He was born July 17, 1944 in Monticello, Arkansas to the late Jeff Cater and Violet Brown Cater.

After graduating high school in Arkansas, he completed Diesel Mechanic School in Kansas City, Kansas.  Moved to Austin working for Kerrville Bus Company and playing guitar in Cobras Band with friends. He worked as a diesel mechanic in Tyler, TX and Little Rock, Arkansas until retirement.  Douglas had a deep love and gift for music from a very young age. His first guitar was an old cast-iron skillet with wires attached to it. He played violin and went to state in 6 th grade, learned piano before graduating high school, and even learned to play drums in the last 10 years. Douglas had many hobbies over the years: music, his motorcycle, building and flying model airplanes, his Mercedes; go-carts, flying kites, playing organ, keyboard, piano, guitar and harmonica, and tinkering with and fixing things.

Douglas moved to Palacios to be with family after a health issue 10 years ago. He attended Solid Rock Fellowship, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Assembly of God Outreach Church, where he played drums with their worship team on Sunday and Thursday evenings, and absolutely loved it! He visited Agape Family Outreach Church with his daughter. He loved going to church, worshipping and Bible study so much, he went to ORLC and AOG both twice a week for almost 10 years. He loved going to the Palacios Senior Citizens Center with all his heart and went rain or shine. Loved friends, staff & especially the cooks.

During his time in Palacios, Douglas grew very close to God. There was such joy and peace on his heart and face even in the midst of significant health issues. His love of the Lord was evident to those that knew him. Worshipping God at home with one of his daughters, even in the hospital, he would sing hymns and play keyboards for his daughter and staff.

Douglas loved his daughters, sister and grandchildren. He loved Brittani's cheesecakes and was so proud of her. He loved Brandon's kindness and spending time with him. He loved Samuel's love for music and Olivia's talents for quilting. He also enjoyed sitting with his great-grandson Blake at the piano and keyboard try to teach him musical notes. He was anticipating meeting his new great-granddaughter Vera Lorraine born April 6.

At the end he just loved. He loved God, and people no matter how near or far. The last few months was a time of much worship, love joy and peace, playing his keyboard, guitar and singing hymns. He frequently sung The Old Rugged Cross, Amazing Grace and Hallelujah. Even singing The Old Rugged Cross Friday before going home to be with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Without a doubt, he is with Jesus.

Douglas is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Christine Westmoreland, and his infant sister Patsy Cater. Survivors include daughters Donna Quinn (William) and Sharon Harville (John); sister Sue Barnett; grandchildren Brittani Riccio (Paul), Brandon Quinn, Samuel Harville and Olivia Harville and great-grandchildren Blake Colton Quinn and Vera Lorraine Riccio; nieces and nephews Jackie Prim (Eddie), Jeff Barnett (Dana), John Barnett (Lynn) and many other nieces and nephews.
