Dorothy Kathleen Shearer Young, 89, passed away on January 10, 2019 in Austin, Texas. Dorothy was born near Smithville, Texas on August 7, 1929, to Václav and Molly Barina.

After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, Dorothy moved to Bay City to teach at Bay City High School. She married Spergeon Whitfield Shearer of Bay City. Dorothy attended Holy Cross Catholic Church, owned and operated A-1 Answering Service, and taught swimming lessons. Thereafter, she moved back to Smithville.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters; husband Spergeon Whitfield Shearer; daughters Beverly Claybourne and Shirley Shearer; and infant sons Spergeon and Whitfield Shearer. She is survived by her sister Edna Tennison; daughter Cecilia Studdard; daughter Nancy Daniel and her husband Greg Daniel; son Lee McKinney; son-in-law Jody Claybourne; grandchildren Mark Blythe, Justin Blythe, Katie Studdard, Kasey Studdard and his wife Kimberly, Gregory Daniel and his wife Erin, and Leslie Daniel; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
