Dorothy Ann Baer Huebner, 86, of Bay City passed away on Tuesday December 13, 2016. Dot (or Shorty as she was affectionately known) lived her entire life in Matagorda County. She was born on February 26, 1930 in Bay City and grew up in Matagorda. She moved to Bay City upon her marriage to her loving husband of 63 years – Bert L. Huebner. Dot was co-manager, along with Bert, of the Baer Cattle Company for over fifty years. Dot's fervent passion for protection of her family legacy combined with her steadfast commitment to following good judgment and sound business practices helped guide and sustain the family ranching business for a substantial portion of its 143 year history. Her commitment and leadership helped solidly secure Baer Cattle Company's place among the oldest, continuous cattle operations within the State of Texas.
Dot is survived by Bert, her three children – Allison Huebner Tally (Cam), Glenn Baer Huebner, and Sara Lee Huebner, and her three grand-children – Leigh Anne Tally, Taylor Maclin Tally, and Savannah Glyn Tally. Dot was always thrilled with visits from the grandchildren and the grandchildren themselves have very fond memories of summers spent at "boot camp" with their wonderful grandparents. Dot graduated from Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans. She was a founding member of the Junior Service League of Bay City and an active participant of numerous other community service organizations over the years.
Dot was pre-deceased by her parents Arthur G. and Pearl Alyce Yates Baer, infant Daniel Baer Huebner and her two sisters – Hattie Louise Baer Hall, and Ruth Alyce Baer Westmoreland. Dot was warmly considered to be a second mom to her nieces and nephews whom she loved very much – Kalyn Westmoreland Green (deceased), Greg Baer Westmoreland, Reid Baer Westmoreland, Jami Ruth Westmoreland Ahysen, Ruth Ann Hall Taylor, Jenilu Hall, Marc Baer Hall (deceased), Carolyn Sue (Suzy) Hall Walters, and Arthur Baer Hall.
The Family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held 2:30 PM Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bay City with Rev. Pauline Harvey Storey officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Glenn Baer Huebner, Ruth Ann Hall Taylor, Greg Baer Westmoreland, Reid Baer Westmoreland, Arthur Baer Hall, Cam Tally, Taylor Tally, J.D. Gatson and Sherry Brown.
