Dorothy Faye Hamlin, 83, of Sweeny passed away October 18, 2011. She was born January 11, 1928 in San Augustine, TX. She worked in the cafeteria for Sweeny ISD for many years, ran the nursery at Sweeny First Baptist Church and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Sweeny Community Hospital. She loved children and was deeply devoted to her family.
Her husband William B. Hamlin preceded her in death. Survivors include daughter Judy Gibbens of Sweeny; son Jerry Hamlin of Sweeny; sisters Maggie Drawhorn of Zavala, TX, Emily Harvey of Palacios, Elaine Melling of Groves, TX, Jean LeClaire of Pearland and Melba McCoy of Palacios; brother L. J. Brister of Palacios; grandchildren Amanda Gibbens, Candice Rayburn & Jonathan Hamlin and great grandchild Campbell Rayburn.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6pm to 8pm Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Sweeny with Rev. John Price officiating. Interment will follow at Sweeny Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Grisham, Buddy Jackson, John Ed Marsh, Tommy Zajizek, John Kennedy & Allen Terrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Patterson, Kenneth Lott, Troy Bass, Wes Sewell & Clyde Gibbens.
