Obituary

Dorothy Ann Windberg Curtner, 74, of Blessing, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009.
She was born September 11, 1935, in Berclaire, Texas to Adolf and Emelia Reitz Windberg.
She was a beloved resident of Blessing since 1962 and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church of Blessing. She was also a member of St. Peter and St. Robert's Altar Society for 47 years serving as President for 17 years and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas "Our Lady of the Blessings" Court #2546.
She is survived by her husband Calvin Ray "Pete" Curtner of 54 years, a daughter Pamela Joines and husband Gary of Blessing; and by her sons Clifton Curtner and wife Linda of Blessing and Tiler Curtner and wife Lynsey of Bay City; by her sisters Jeanette Elder and Verna Hilliard of Beeville, Joyce Jones and husband Robert "Bob" Jones of Corpus Christi; and by her brother-in-law Carlton "Sam" Curtner of Wharton. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren Cameron and Chade Joines, Catelyn Curtner, and Reagan Curtner. And a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law John Elder of Beeville; and brother-in-law Jesse Curtner of Wharton.
She was known to all family and friends as "Granny". Her compassion in life was taking care of her family and always being there to serve others in need. She loved following the activities of her grandchildren always being there to cheer them on. As an avid sports fan she loved watching her grandchildren participate in football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, golf, soccer, archery, track and softball. Regardless of the weather she was always their number one fan cheering them on from the stands. She loved to cook and was famous for her coconut cream pie and Italian cream cake. She helped in volunteering with "Blessing Day" serving in the cakes and pies for over 45 years.
Visitation will take place Friday, December 11, 2009, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing from 6:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. with rosary recited immediately after.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 12, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing at 3:00p.m. with the Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandchildren Cameron Joines, Catelyn Curtner, Chade Joines; friends Vic Kahlich, Henry Day, and Bill Garner.
Honorary Pallbearers are granddaughter Reagan Curtner; friends Jack Hodge, Edwin Logan, Bob White and brother-in-law Robert "Bob" Jones.

The Family of Dorothy would like to thank Dr. Barker, nurses, and staff at Matagorda Regional Hospital for their loving and compassionate care that they administered during her illness. Thank you also is extended to Pat Matthes and Jackie with the Houston Hospice for the comfort that was given and the support the family needed.
