Obituary

Our precious mother, Doris Hickl Wendel 74 of Angleton, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on 1-15-18. She was born in El Maton, Texas to the late August Andrew Hickl and Otilie Hamala Hickl. She graduated in 1961 from Tidehaven High School and played the drums in the high school band. Doris worked for UTMB TDC for 19 years as a clerk in the medical department. She was very involved and dedicated to her church Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She enjoyed volunteering at the Catholic resale shop for many years after retirement.

Doris's many hobbies included sewing, canning, and gardening. She stayed busy quilting and sewing clothes for her family, and later on sewing for grandkids as well. Back in her younger days you could find her in the kitchen every Friday making a variety of kolaches and cinnamon rolls. On Sundays she would bake chocolate and lemon meringue pies. She loved tending to her many plants and flowers outside. She definitely had a green thumb. The highlight of Doris's life were her grandkids, who all called her Mimi. They loved spending as much time with her as possible. Doris looked forward to going camping every summer with her family, and when she could get in a little fishing, that would especially make her happy.

Survivors include her partner and best friend of 10 years Rick Lovelace, her son Greg Wendel (Charlene), daughter Denise Lezak (Mark), son David Wendel (Melanie), daughter Jennifer Hill (Peyton), brother James Hickl (Glenda), sister Patricia Gavranovic (James), grandchildren, Kristen Wendel, Garret Wendel, Brad Lezak (Kayla),Amy Lezak, Kady Lezak, Ryan Lezak, Jacob Lezak, Kirk Wendel, Kayla Wendel, Kevin Wendel, Kristen Johnson, Caroline Gaspard (Derek), Dillon Hill, Savannah Hill, Morgan Hill, great-grandchild Haven Spriggins.

A Rosary/Visitation will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church in Blessing, Texas on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., and Funeral Mass at St. Peters on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Father Victor Perez officiating along with Rev. Father Gabriel J. Mensah. Interment will follow at St. Peters Cemetery.
