Doris Bouldin 83 died peacefully at home Friday evening October 10, 2008 in Bay City. She had resided in the home of her son Chris for the past year, and lovingly cared for by her daughter-in-law Pam and granddaughter Tatum. Although she had given up her home, she had remained active and spent her days often running around town with her daughter and best friend Sherri. They shopped, went to the dollar stores and got their nails and toes done. Friday was hair do day and she had a standing appointment with Elva to get her hair set and styled for the week. She and her daughter would then go to El Zarape for a number 1 and iced tea. Elegant and beautiful through her final day on this earth, we will all miss her greatly, but feel so blessed to have had her for 83 years.
Doris Ellon Hilliard was born January 24, 1925 to John Winslow Hilliard and Cora Lee Jones Hilliard. She was the youngest of 10 children. They lived in Bell County. The family had a Model T Ford and she remembered it was only used on Sundays to go to church. Her father, an attorney drove a horse and carriage the rest of the week. He died in 1930 when she was 5 years old.
On August 11, 1944 She married Henry E. Bouldin, They had 2 children a daughter Sherri and a son Chris. They raised their children in McGregor Texas.
In 1980 after retiring they moved to the river at Selkirk Island and opened Henry's Used Cars in Bay City in 1981. After 3 successful years, she closed Henry's Used Cars in 1984 due to her husbands declining health. He died in 1986 and she moved to Bay City the following year. Doris is survived by brother: Artie Hilliard of Goldthwaite; daughter: Sherri Cartee and husband Gary of Bay City; son: Chris Bouldin and wife Pam of Bay City; 5 grandchildren: Sheila Tate and husband Terry of Bay City, Shane Smith and wife Jennifer of Van Vleck, Shannon Smith and wife Lisa of Corpus Christi, Chris Bouldin Jr of Bay City, and Tatum Bouldin of Bay City; 7 Great Grandchildren: Trey and Tyler Treybig of Bay City, Amber and Lacy Smith of Van Vleck, Brooke and Dylan Smith of Corpus Christi. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry in 1986 and her grandson Logon in 2004.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm to 7pm Thursday at the funeral home. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, October 17, 2008 at Taylor Bros Funeral Home with Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Burial will be 4:00 PM Friday at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple Texas where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband and lifelong friend, Henry.
