Donald Wayne Gibbens, 95 formerly of Bay City, passed away on June 25, 2013 in Katy, Texas. He was born February 10, 1918 in Scott County, Arkansas to the late Bud D. and Cassie Gibbens. He moved to Bay City in 1928 where he eventually met his future wife, Eva. They married on May 17, 1941, and resided in Bay City until 2006 when they moved to an assisted living facility in Katy to be closer to their children. He was employed as an electrician as CP&L for 41 years until his retirement in 1980. He also enjoyed buying, selling and trading cattle. Don was a charter member of Golden Avenue Baptist Church, formerly Baptist Temple, in 1949; he served there as a deacon for many years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a man of strong integrity and humble leadership. He loved and faithfully served his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, until his death and is now celebrating with Him in Heaven.
In addition to his parents and all his siblings (two sisters and four brothers), he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Eva; son-in-law Charles Jurecka. Survivors include; his children, Wayne & Bobbie Gibbens and Gayle Jurecka; grandchildren, Darla & Terry Heeringa, Karen & Steve Kalmus and Ron & Kazuko Gibbens; great-grandchildren, Emily & Rachel Heeringa, Austin & Hunter Kalmus and Eva Gibbens; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. A celebration of his life will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 28, 2013 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.
