Dolores Castro, 63, of Pasadena, Texas, passed away on April 26, 2026. She was born on November 17, 1962, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Arturo Castro and Janie Ochoa Castro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Victoria Duran. Dolores is survived by her children, Ramon Cantu III and his wife, Samantha, and Bianca Duran and her husband, Bruce; her sisters, Carolyn Harvey and Carmen Castro; her brothers, J.B. Harvey and Gerald Castro; and her grandchildren, Alicia Duran, Sloan Cantu, Ramon Cantu IV, Savanna Cantu, and Robert Cantu.
Dolores worked primarily in the refineries as a fire watch, timekeeper, and scaffold builder, earning her NCCER certification. She was well-known as the “Shrimp Lady” for over 25 years and owned her own business, “The Shrimp Shoppe,” in Corpus Christi. She opened El Jargin in the mid-90s in Palacios and also launched “This and That Resale Shop” off Main Street in Palacios. She was a longtime member of Bible Baptist Fellowship of Palacios and later Power Church in Bay City after her move there, as well as a member of Ambassadors of Jesus Christ and Revelation Riders.
Dolores was recognized as a loving and kind woman. Despite life’s challenges, she became a fierce and resourceful individual, never giving up or backing down. She focused on the best interests of her children and found creative ways to keep them busy, often involving the family shrimp business or “dragging branches”. Her children undoubtedly brought immense joy to her life.
Her life transformed for the better when she became a grandmother. Nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her grandchildren. It was apparent that in matters concerning her grandchildren and their parents, her grandbabies were always right because “Granny said so.” We will miss the BBQ dinners, movie dates, bingo trips, and visits to the park to see the ducks. I will especially miss our light-hearted arguments over the silliest things. To this day, Granny has never lost an argument because she was never wrong! I learned from my uncle Gerald that “Even if your mom says the sky is green, guess what? The sky is green.” He was likely trying to save me from the inevitable uppercut I would have received if I kept challenging her.
It’s funny how we tend to remember only the good things when we lose someone, and I’m grateful for that; I wouldn’t want it any other way. One promise I won't forget is the commitment I made to her to ensure that we raise her grandchildren to be good men and women, just like my sister and I. We love you, Mom, and we will never forget the impact you made on our lives.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Palacios Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Richard Alameda officiating. Interment will follow at the Palacios Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Ramon Cantu III, Ramon Cantu IV, Jordan Castro, Toby Torres, Bruce Duran, and Kaleb Garcia.
