Obituary

On July 5, 2019, Dick Carter, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend went to be with our Lord. Dick received his wings while a patient at Houston Hospice following a long illness. He is preceded in death by His mother and father, Larry and Betty Carter, his stepmother Gladys Carter, his brother Tim Carter and his first wife Mary Chessir Carter.

Dick was born in Steubenville, Ohio on April 5, 1946. He graduated from Wadsworth High School and soon after joined the Air Force. He was stationed in Greece during the Vietnam Era. It was while in service to our country that he married Mary Chessir. They were blessed with their two daughters Trisha Mattison and Erin Ehlerman. Dick is now also survived by his loving wife, Renee Stinson Carter with whom he shared their fifth anniversary on the day of his passing.

Dick will be remembered for his unique gift of being friendly with everyone who made eye contact with him at any time. He had a passion just one degree short of being a sin for motorcycle touring and riding through the great outdoors with the many friends he made. Along this passion was his love for campfires and cultivating his friendships with the many friends he made.

Dick was truly an ambassador of goodwill. While in Beeville, Dick was a member of the Kiwanis Club, worked with the Key Club, coached softball and was a football official for many years. In 2002, Dick moved to Bay City, Texas. His passion for motorcycles continued and he became a member of the Gulf Coast Riders. He joined Road Riders Inc., a group that worked to make sure that local children and their families received Christmas gifts. Dick was also a member of the Matagorda County Calvary. An organization that supports our American heroes: military, police officers, and firefighters.

Later in life, Dick became a member of the Texas Historical Shootist Society. He loved going to the monthly shooting matches. His cowboy name was Ezee Randezee. One of his fondest memories was being a part of the Marshalls for the annual Trailhead.

He is survived by his wife, Renee Carter, his daughters Trisha Mattison and husband Trent of Beaumont, Erin Ehlermann and husband Mark of Perham, Maine, stepson Eric Stewart and wife Kari of San Antonio and five grandchildren Logan Burke and Cooper Mattison, Andrew Ehlerman and Ryan Ehlerman, and Chloe Stewart. His brothers Larry Carter and wife Connie of Lake Stevens, Washington and Doug Carter and wife Ann of Tallmadge, Ohio. His sisters Jennie Carter of Indianapolis, Indiana and Zana Schweyer and her husband Matt of Bluffton Ohio. Many nieces and nephews and close friends.
