Della Mae Shafer, 90, of Bay City, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 31, 2016 at Brookdale Sugar Land Assisted Living.

Della was born March 28, 1926 in Pledger, Texas to David and Lena Dollery. She attended high school in Markham, Texas where she graduated salutatorian in 1945. She worked for Central Power and Light and later for Speedway Oil and then worked for the City of Bay City, Texas until she retired. She was married in 1946 To Robert E. Shafer. She helped with seniors at Bay Villa seniors home in Bay City, Texas after her retirement.

Della was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Shafer, her parents David and Lena Dollery and her brother David Dollery Jr.
Della is survived by her daughter Sharon G. Shafer, son Robert E. Shafer Jr., granddaughter Kristen L. Shafer, grandson Ryan D. Wilson and wife Amanda Boyaki Wilson, two great-granddaughters Vivian R. Wilson and Marilyn R. Wilson and Rachael Dollery, her cousin.

The family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, August 7, 2016 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, August 8, 2016 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Reverend Don Meador officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas.
