IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Deborah Louise
Murray
May 21, 1950 – March 11, 2025
Deborah (Debbie) Louise Schneider Murray, 74, of Palacios, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in her home, surrounded by family and her beloved dog Jax. She was born in Palacios, Texas in the original Wagner General Hospital on May 21, 1950, to the late Louis Willie Schneider Sr. and Birdie Neldine Spoor Schneider.
Debbie worked at Palacios Independent School District for 32 years as an Instructional Assistant and bus driver, retiring in 2015. After retirement, Mom cared for Chandler, the youngest grandchild until he started school. During her years as a bus driver, Mom dearly loved her bus route children who rode her buses, routes 3A and 4A. It would not be uncommon for mom to stop her route to let her kids save a kitten or two, rescue a dog, let ducks cross the road, or even allow a few of her kids to salvage a rattlesnake skin. Yes, those were the days when kids rode in glory to save animals and be loved. One of the best memories from route 3A is when mom, saved a kitten, brought it back to the bus barn, and handed it to Mr. Rutledge and told him here is your new cat. Mr. Rutledge fell in love with the kitten and loved it for years.
Mom's love for animals did not just occur on the bus route, she also served as the Vice President for Palacios Pet Pals for fifteen years, rescuing countless dogs, rehabilitating them, and placing them in forever homes. Mom has left a lasting impression on many with her fearless love for animals. To name a few, Trucker, a little Jack Russell, was adopted and rode with his best friend across the country for his lifetime. Mom and a close friend saved Maxwell and placed him in Robyn's loving home for 16 years. In addition, Mom saved Miss Muffet and placed her in Deana's loving arms for 10 years. There are countless stories of how mom placed the right dog with the best family across the country. We all have fond memories of Mom bringing joy to all with her love for animals.
Mom was fiercely loved by many friends, who all shared that she was calm and would be there at a moment's notice to support her with anything. Nothing was too small for Mom. It would not be uncommon to find mom baking for those she loved, helping them through their struggles, or just being the friend they needed at the right time.
June 11, 1988, Mom married the love of her life, Michael "Mike" Murray. They spent nearly 37 years in marriage and it was evident the profound love she had for Mike. Mike was her true north, her comfort, and peace. Mike and Mom raised a blended family of 4 children to be successful adults who share a passion for animals and family.
