David Crockett Slone, age 77 of Bay City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 28, 2017. He was born on May 28, 1940 in Collegeport, Texas, the second of six boys of William and Phyllis Slone.
David grew up in Bay City and was a member of First Baptist Church. He attended Bay City High School and graduated in 1958. After graduation he continued helping his family farm rice until he and his brother, Arthur Ray, entered the U.S. Army together where they served in both Hawaii and Thailand.
David married the love his life, Margaret Ann Blanchard, on October 17th, 1964. He went on to continue his professional career for over 30 years of dedicated service at Dow Chemical working his way up to a chemical technologist.
After retirement, David lived and loved life to the fullest through simple pleasures; raising and caring for his cattle and livestock, tending his year-round garden, and at the top of his list was making memories and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He treasured every minute of being a Paw-Paw.
David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret; his daughter Melissa Troell and husband Henry; his son Jason and wife Kristin; his 4 grandchildren Thomas Scheltema, Zach Troell, Alyssa Troell, and Jenna Troell; brothers Richard Slone and wife Sandy, Billy Slone and wife Ricki, Dale Slone and wife Sharon; sister-in-law Carole Brannon and husband JC; brother-in-law Ira Blanchard and wife Tina; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Jesse H. Slone; brother Arthur Ray Slone and his wife Joyce.
Visitation will take place from Noon – 2pm on Friday September 8th, 2017 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City. The celebration of David's life will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 2pm in Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ira Blanchard officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers are Zach Troell, Thomas Scheltema, JC Brannon, Jimmy Brannon, Richard Slone, and Billy Slone. Honorary pallbearers include Trey Slone, Steven Slone, Robert Slone, Dwayne Dibbern, Jack Williams, and Bill Bona.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bay City or Van Vleck FFA Scholarship Fund.
