David Perez Martinez, Sr., 71, of Bay City passed away August 5, 2020. He was born July 22, 1949 in Bay City to the late Joaquin Martinez and Amelia Perez Martinez.

Mr. Martinez was employed at STP for several years, but spent the majority of his career employed by Hlavinka Equipment, from where he eventually retired. He was well-known throughout the Matagorda County agricultural community for his generosity and ready smile.

It is within his family where David will be most deeply missed. He was a sweet and kind man who devoted his time to traveling with his beloved Helen to various activities and events for his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Papo". An enormous extended family will also mourn David's passing, as will his parish, where he worshipped his Savior in the Catholic faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Cipriano and Matilda Perez, a sister, Rosa Martinez, and a brother, Marcelino Martinez.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 47 years, Mary Helen Martinez; daughters Michelle Carrillo (Darrell), Angelica Martinez and Rosanne Martinez; son David P. Martinez, Jr. (Andrea); sisters Mary Jane Montalvo, Alicia Guzman (Richard), Petra Martinez, Pauline Martinez and Tammy Martinez; brothers Patricio Martinez, Sr., Joaquin Martinez (Elena), Jerry Martinez (Linda) and Jack Martinez and grandchildren Darrell Kyle Carrillo, Abigail Carrillo, Layla Carrillo, Matthew David Martinez, Isabella Martinez and David P. Martinez III. A loving family friend Charity Gonzales and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends are also left behind to remember him fondly.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Fabricio Zuniga, MRMC, as well as to the staff of PAM Specialty Hospital of Victoria for their care and guidance during this difficult time. Your profound kindness and compassion were of great comfort and will never be forgotten.

A rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM Monday, August 10, 2020 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 AM Monday with Rev. Gabriel Espinosa officiating.
