Daniel "Dan" B. O'Connell, 85, of Van Vleck, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 in Bay City. He was born March 19, 1924 in Van Vleck, TX to Bessie Marie (Boyd) and Allan Daniel O'Connell. He was a lifelong resident of Van Vleck and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Van Vleck. He was retired from the US Postal Service as the Post Master of Van Vleck Post Office.

He is survived by his wife: Charlean Howard O'Connell; by his sisters-in-law: Winnie Ruth O'Connell of Van Vleck and Sylvia Boswell of Missouri City; by nephews: Donnie O'Connell & wife Sonya, David O'Connell, and Dan O'Connell & wife Lanelle; by nieces Elayne Cox & husband Doyle, Linda Lamberth & husband Dennis, and Lea Ann Katallo; and by numerous great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, by a brother: Allan Eugene O'Connell; and his brother-in-law: Lt. Col. Marlin C. Howard.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church of Van Vleck with Rev. Jack Hutson officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be his nephews: Donnie O'Connell, David O'Connell, Dan E. O'Connell, and great nephews, Dustin O'Connell, Donavan O'Connell, and Pat O'Connell. Honorary pallbearers will be Truett Farris, Jack Odell Brown, and Samuel G. Trevino.
