Obituary

Dalton Sargent Mangum Jr., 77, of Palacios passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2022.  He was born September 13, 1944, in Bay City, Texas, the son of Dalton Sargent Mangum and Dorothy Lee Hoffman.

He graduated from Palacios High School with the Class of 1963. Following graduation, he attended 2 years at Wharton Junior College. He was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1966. Being the only son of his family, he was safely stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He received an honorary discharge at the end of his service in 1968.

He then began a 35-year career with the Alcoa Aluminum Plant until his retirement in 2003. During his lifetime he was a member of multiple organizations that were dear to his heart, such as the Palacios Masonic Lodge and Palacios Pony and Little Leagues.

In 2002 he reunited with the love of his life, Janice Ann Hunter. Together, they shared 20 years of marriage, conquering sickness, enjoying times of good health, and sharing abundant love and so much laughter.

Along with holding the greatest love for his family, he loved to fish and watch sci-if, westerns, and old comedies on TV. He enjoyed cheering on his great nieces, nephews, and children of family friends at all their sporting events and he cherished being a bonus Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, and Brother to many. He also loved animals enormously, especially his cats and his beloved dog Bobi. He loved his Agape Church Family, where he was a greeter.  Most of all his love for the Lord was first and foremost in his life.

Dalton was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, 2 brothers-in-law, and his beloved Lab Bobi.   He is survived by his loving wife: Ann Hunter Mangum; 2 daughters:  Teresa Feudo (Joe) of Humble, Texas and Lisa McWhorter (Monte) of Taft, Texas; and son: Danny Mangum (Bianca) of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his 2 sisters: Betty Roberson (Bryan-deceased) of Victoria, Texas and sister Andy Thompson (Tracy-deceased) of Baytown, Texas; and multiple grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and uncle (Lesli).

A service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 11:00 am at Agape Church, 1811 Newsome Blvd, Palacios, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Agape Church.
