Obituary

Coloma Dell Lafferty, 85, of Bay City, passed away on December 14, 2015. She was born August 11, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late Charles Edward Lafferty and Anna Dell Lafferty Mangum.

Coloma was the eldest to her twin sister, Romona Dell Lafferty Davis. She was proud of being the eldest and would tell everyone that she was 15 minutes older. She and her family moved to Bay City when Coloma was 6 years old. She graduated from Bay City High School in 1947. After high school she attended Sam Houston State University and earned a Master's Degree in Music. She taught Band in El Campo for a few years and then moved to Houston where she became a Choral Director at Spring Branch High School and later at Memorial High School until she retired.

Coloma was an active member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston for most of her adult life. She moved to Bay City in 2007 with her twin sister and joined First Baptist Church in Bay City.

Coloma was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, teacher and friend. She had many children that she called her own - her ex-students. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

Coloma was preceded in death by her beloved cat, Mindy Lou, father, Charlie Lafferty, mother. Anna Mangum, step-father Harvey Mangum and great niece, Brandy Lynn Etheridge and special ex-student and friend Diana Bradfield of Katy, TX. She is survived by her twin sister, Romona Dell Lafferty Davis, her nieces, Hazel Ann Davis Saunders (Darwin Saunders) of Macon, GA, Sandra Kay Davis Burleson (Pat Burleson) of Kingwood, TX and Rebecca Lynn Davis Etheridge of Bay City, TX; great nieces, Tiffany Ann Burleson Cherry (Sterling Cherry) of Rosenberg, TX, Sandy Saunders of Greenville, SC, Carrie Saunders Price of Lexington, KY, Andrea Saunders of Woodard, Frankfort, KY, Christy Saunders of Macon, GA, Traci Saunders Baggarly of Macon, GA and great nephew Keith Kolwes of Houston, TX and great-great nephew Eli Saunders of Macon, GA and special friends R. L. Cook and Ann James.

Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 18, 2015 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Private graveside services will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, TX.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Coloma's name to Alzheimer's Foundation of America or First Baptist Church in Bay City, Texas.
