Clarence Richard Allen, 70, of Bay City, TX, passed away at his home December 17, 2009, with his loving wife by his side. Richard was born August 30, 1939, in Bay City to the late Clarence Roscoe and Rosa Mae Walker Allen.
The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, December 21, 2009 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, 2313 Ave. I, Bay City, TX. Mr. Allen's cousin, The Rev. Jack Womack, Pastor of Hope Community Methodist Church, Pasadena, TX will officiate. Richard was a charter member of First United Methodist Church, Van Vleck. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
Visitation with family and friends will be 4:30 to 6:00 PM Sunday, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Grisham, Art Henry, Rob Kiner, James Olson, Ronnie Pasek and Al Otradovsky. James H. "Jimmy" Grisham, employees of Hlavinka Farm Implement Company, and Richard's golfing buddies will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Survivors include Richard's wife Carol Sens Allen; brother Jerry Robert Allen and wife Lynell of West Columbia; sisters Mary Lee Allen of San Antonio and Peggy Allen Ottis of Belton. Other survivors are nephews Rev. Cullen Allen and wife Shelley and children Ryan, Kyle, and Evan of Gibsonia, PA; Daryl Allen and wife Shelley and children Robbie, Julia, and Rachel of Atlanta, GA; Chris Ottis of Houston, and niece Trish Ottis Berryman and husband Joel and son Jaxon of Belton. Additional survivors include many cousins and friends.
Following graduation from Van Vleck High School and Sam Houston State College, Mr. Allen served in the United States Air Force. Later, after having been employed with International Harvester Farm Implement Company, he purchased an I. H. dealership in El Campo. His tranquil retirement years were spent on his farm with his devoted wife of forty-seven years and their spoiled cows.
Richard once said that in addition to his parents, his greatest asset in life was Carol, the love of his life, the love of his two sisters Mary Lee and Peggy, and especially the love and championship of this brother Jerry. He and his siblings and spouses had a warm, loving relationship that now has a broken link.
