Clara Fay Nunley Spaugh died Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015 at the age of 70.
Mrs. Spaugh is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry William (JW) Spaugh. She is survived by her two daughters Pamela Spaugh Mercer and her husband Gary Mercer; and Candace Spaugh Hamberg and her husband William Hamberg. She is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Taryn Mercer Wollam, her husband Jeremy Wollam, and their sons Lincoln Wollam and Lane Wollam; Krystal Mercer McLellan and her husband Anson McLelllan; Hannah Mercer; Alexis Hamberg; and Nathan Hamberg.
From a young age, Mrs. Spaugh was always a high energy person who loved being with family. She found her soul mate and partner for life at the age of 16, when she married JW Spaugh of Denison, Texas. Together, they moved to South Texas in 1965 to pursue a career running Gulf Coast Dairy Queen. For the next 50 years, the business thrived. Since her husband's death 20 years ago, Mrs. Spaugh has been active in keeping Gulf Coast Dairy Queen a success. In later years she became an avid traveler and very much enjoyed being a tourist of the world.
Mrs. Spaugh will be remembered as a strong family matriarch, who took great pride in the business that she and her husband established nearly half a century ago. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings at her home and being present at all of their important life events.
The family will receive visitors from 6pm-8pm Tuesday, April 7 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City. Services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, April 8 at First United Methodist Church in Bay City with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. She will be buried along side her husband in Sweeny, Texas, at 3:00pm that afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the C.O.P.D. Foundation, 3300 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Miami, FL 33134 or the charity of your choice.
