Carter O. Franklin, 66, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 22, 2016 following a brief illness. He was born on September 22, 1949 in Livingston, Texas to Carter Franklin and Parale Dickens. He graduated and lived most of his life in Bay City, Texas.
Carter wore many hats throughout his carrier. He worked as a police detective, for Brown and Root, EMS, as a volunteer fireman, and lastly owner of Franklin Firearms. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Matagorda for 25 years and a active member of the Matagorda County Sheriffs Association.
Carter's greatest passion was enjoying time spent with grand kids and family. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, repairing guns and visiting with the many friends who he met through his gunsmith shop. Someone could come in a stranger, and always left has a friend. Even after being out of law enforcement for 30 years, he was still committed to serving the citizens of Matagorda County through the Matagorda County Sheriffs policy Citizens Academy.
Carter is preceded in death by his parents and Carol Franklin the love of his life. He is survived by son Brian Franklin and wife Susan of Boling, TX; daughter Carrie Miller and husband Billie of Bay City; sisters, Derinda Brown of Spring, TX, Joan Fullen and husband Roger of Houston and Joyce Walker of Bay City; grandchildren: Gage Neimann, Chase Miller, Harold Franklin, Samantha Franklin and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Matagorda County 100 Club.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, July 28 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home. Services will be 10:00am Friday, July 29, 2016 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Quirk officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Jeff Tarver, Colby Fullen, Scott Fullen, Mike Mariner, Roger Fullen, Brian Franklin and Mike Ferrell.
