Carter wore many hats throughout his carrier. He worked as a police detective, for Brown and Root, EMS, as a volunteer fireman, and lastly owner of Franklin Firearms. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Matagorda for 25 years and a active member of the Matagorda County Sheriffs Association.
