Obituary

Carolyn Francis Netherton Into was born in Altus, Oklahoma to Zee and Dorothy Wicker Netherton on June 22, 1941.  She graduated from Altus High School in 1959.  She attended Southwestern College in Weatherford, Oklahoma, where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She graduated in 1963 to begin her teaching career, and taught in Hammon, Oklahoma from 1964-65. She then returned to her hometown to teach on the Altus Air Force Base at Falcon/L Mendel Rivers Elementary until 1975. While there, she met and married the love of her life, Henry Into, to whom she was married 30 years.  July 4, 1975, the family moved to Palacios, Texas, which proved to be "home" for the rest of her life.  She took time off from teaching to raise her 2 youngest daughters.  It was during this time that she became well known for her ability to cook, especially her donuts.  She would often be seen giving away her goodies around town and loved making someone's day.  Once her youngest was in high school, Carolyn returned to teaching in 1989 and joined the crew at Tidehaven Jr. High, where she taught more than 20 years.  She loved teaching, especially teaching students who struggled academically or behaviorally.

Carolyn loved garage sales, bag and clearance sales, and just visiting with people.  She talked to everyone and loved meeting strangers, who would quickly become her friend.   One of her favorite things to do, was to ride around HEB letting anyone who would listen know where the good deals were. In fact, a few of her last outings when she no longer drove, her daughter would drop her off at HEB with a fully charged cart and oxygen tank and she would call to get picked up when her oxygen ran low.

Everyone who knew her well, knew she was very particular about her hair.  The last few years, one of the highlights of her week was traveling to Palacios to let Rosie "rat" her hair up, and to play the piano or organ for her church family.  For several years, every Sunday, Carolyn would travel to Midfield Church to play for the service, then travel to Palacios First Baptist and play for that service.  Most Sundays she would then travel to the Blessing Hotel Coffee Shop and help Ms. Helen keep the lunch crowd flowing.  Her last Sunday to play at church or "work" at the Coffee Shop was Easter, 2023.

Carolyn was the Queen of Bling no matter how bad she felt.  In fact, while many knew of her dependence on oxygen, few truly knew the physical struggles she dealt with as she always made sure she had the perfect outfit and matching accessories.  She wanted to "run the roads" and embrace life, enjoy people, and give away as much jewelry and treats as she could.  She absolutely loved making someone's day and truly lived to do so. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and brother, George Lynn Netherton.  She is survived by her children:  Marolyn Evans and husband Lyndell of Altus, Oklahoma, Tim Wright of Palacios, Emily Soderlund and husband David of Altus, and Mollisondra Bodungen and husband Gary of El Campo, Texas. Ten grandchildren: Mary Jones, Teresa Moorman, Jessica Ramirez, Carolyn Wright, Lindsay Spandley, Bradley Spandley, Lana Spandley, Britten Spandley, Brandon Bodungen, and Blake Bodungen.
