On April 8, 1930, Jacqueline Carol was born to Jack Vann Groves and Felicia Delight Beckwith Groves in Houston, Texas. Carol’s 95 years were filled with her passion for serving in the Methodist church; working as a photography artist; painting landscapes, florals, or bookmarks; quilting; raising and loving her sons; adoring her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and walking beside her husband, Charlie Shaffer (married in 1947) and later her second husband, Charles Koenig (married in 1986).
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Delight; her stepfather, Paul Rogers; her husbands, Charlie and Charles; her brother, Jack; her sisters, Linda, Paula, and Joyce.
She is survived by her sons, Chuck (Vickie) and David; her grandchildren, David Shaffer, Jr. (Liza), and Kristi Missildine (Jim); and her great-grandsons, Vaun, Miles, and Richie Shaffer. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Carol’s family appreciates the care and love that she received at Legacy at Town Creek (Palestine TX), as well as the additional care received from Heart to Heart Hospice.
Cremation services were in the care of Roselawn Park Crematory (Baily and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine TX), and her cremated remains were buried by Taylor Bros. Funeral Home (Bay City TX) at Roselawn Memorial Park (Van Vleck TX).
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. To honor Carol Koenig, memorial donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 2130 Country Club Rd, Palestine TX 75803.
