Obituary

Cannan Wade Garcia passed away on June 26, 2025. Born on February 12, 1985, in Great Falls, Montana, Cannan was raised in Blessing, Texas, where he grew up and built deep roots.

What always stood out about Cannan was his brilliance, fearlessness, and unforgettable presence. He was a true original—bold, unapologetically himself, and never afraid to march to the beat of his own drum. That courage left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Cannan had a lifelong love for education, obtaining a Bachelors and Masters degree from The University of Houston. He built a dedicated career in Radiology, working for several CHI St. Luke's hospitals in Houston and The Woodlands, Texas. He was known not only for his technical skill but for the compassion and excellence he brought to patient care, something he took great pride in.

In the last twelve years of his life, Cannan became known for his unwavering passion for his faith. His discovery of the truth of the Torah, the Sabbath, and the Biblical Holy Days lit a fire in him that never dimmed. He was devoted to studying Scripture and sharing that knowledge with others. His love for God's name—Yehovah—was profound and contagious. Whether hosting Torah teachers from around the world or gathering friends for Shabbat fellowship, Cannan created a space where truth and community thrived. He loved a good theological debate but never let differing views come between friends. His spirited cry of "Hallelu-YAH!" will be deeply missed.

Above all, Cannan loved being a father. His sons, Octavian and Zachariyah, were the absolute light of his life. He approached fatherhood with the same passion and intensity he brought to everything else pouring love, wisdom, and joy into their lives every day. Whether teaching them something new, making them laugh with his signature humor, or guiding them in faith, Cannan's love for his boys was deep, fierce, and unwavering.

Cannan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe Luis Garcia, John Carrillo and Elvira Longoria Carrillo. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Barrow-Garcia, and their two sons, Octavian and Zachariyah Barrow-Garcia. He is also survived by his grandparents, Consuelo and John Resendez; his father, Joe Luis Garcia, Jr; his mother, Rebecca Carrillo; his brother, Steven Shimek and wife Geneva; and his nieces, Adalyn and Alayna; Cannan leaves behind his Uncle John and Aunt Margaret, Aunt Helen, Aunt Rachel, Uncle Ray and Aunt Kat; Uncle James Michael Garcia, Uncle John Henry and Aunt Georgia Garcia, along with numerous cousins—each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Though his time with us was far too short, Cannan's spirit lives on in every life he touched — especially in the hearts of his children, family, and friends who knew the depth of his love.
