Obituary

Candelario Cantu, 91, of Bay City, passed away on May 24, 2025. He was born on February 2, 1934, in Gulf, Texas.

Candelario's strong work ethic began early in life when he took over his brother Joe's paper route as a young boy. At just 15, he became an apprentice at Mr. Blum's TV Repair, where he learned the foundations of a trade that would shape his future. After graduating high school, he pursued further education at the Chicago School of Television Repair. With dedication and entrepreneurial spirit, he went on to establish Cande's TV and Radio Repair Shop, a successful local business known throughout the community.

Determined to continue growing, Candelario also attended night school to become a Sheriff's Deputy. His commitment to public service led to his election as a Matagorda County Constable, a position he held with honor for 30 years.

Candelario's hard work and determination built a solid foundation for his family. Through his success, he proudly provided for his children, supported their education, and stood as a constant source of strength and support. He faced life's challenges with courage and resilience, including triumphing over cancer twice.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family.

Candelario is survived by his children: Monica Triplett, Cande Guadalupe Cantu (Margarita), Christan Ceasar Cantu (Christina), Christopher Gregory Cantu and Annette Martinez (Larry). He also leaves behind grandchildren: Raegan Bagby, Justin Williams, Katie Williams, John Triplett, Joseph Triplett, Larry Ross Martinez, and Joyce Marie Highlander; as well as four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.
