"Pete" Curtner
June 21, 1930 – July 2, 2018
Calvin Ray "Pete" Curtner, 88, of Blessing, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018. He was born June 21, 1930, in Booth, Texas to Carl and Annie Allen Curtner.
Pete proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. during the Korean War. For his bravery and courage, he was presented the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, United Nation's Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Cecil Lee Post #649 of Blessing.
Upon returning from military service, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Windberg. They raised three children, and were beloved residents of Blessing since 1962. Pete and Dorothy spent 54 years together, until her passing in 2009.
Pete's work experience included all aspects of the oilfield. He worked as a truck driver, field supervisor, and gauger. He was employed by Scurlock Oil Company, Gold King Production, and as an independent gauger.
Pete was an avid golfer, sharing the love of the game with his family. Many family gatherings were celebrated on the golf course. In the game of golf, many players never experience a hole-in-one, but Pete accomplished this amazing feat twice. Pete is survived by his daughter, Pamela Joines (Gary) of Blessing, sons Clifton Curtner (Linda) of Blessing, and Tiler Curtner (Lynsey) of Bay City. He is also survived by his brother, Carlton "Sam" Curtner of Bay City.
Pete was lovingly known as "TapPaw" by his grandchildren & great grandchildren. He adored them and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by grandsons; Cameron Joines (Brandi) and Chade Joines (fiancee' Jordan Merendino) and granddaughters; Catelyn Rodriguez (Jose), Reagan Curtner and Ellie Curtner. Pete is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Jordan Drake Rodriguez, Hayden Joines and Morgan Joines.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 5, 2018, from 5pm to 7pm at Taylor Bros Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 6, 2018 at 3:30pm, also at Taylor Bros, with the Reverend Bob Hobbins officiating. Graveside service will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Reagan Curtner, Catelyn Rodriguez, Cameron Joines, Chade Joines, Jose Rodriguez, and Darrell Carrillo. Honorary Pallbearer is longtime golfing buddy, Bill Garner. Memorials may be made to Houston Hospice, 1102 N. Mechanic, El Campo, Texas 77437.
