Brent T. Kirby, 75, of Wadsworth, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 19, 2016. Brent was born on October 9, 1941, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Lucille Goodall Kirby and Chester M Kirby. He married his high school sweetheart, Sue Werlla, after her graduation. They moved to Huntsville where he earned his BS degree in education. After graduating from Sam Houston, they moved back to his hometown of Wadsworth. Brent taught school for only one year but his students still came up and told him the impact he had in their lives. Brent was a farmer and rancher. He was honored as 2012 Matagorda County Cattleman of the Year. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, loved spending time with his family, and visiting with friends. Brent was a Christian man who lived his Christianity, a wonderful husband, and a hero to his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had a heart of gold and an infectious smile. His distinctive whistle meant rescue and safety. He was one of the very few that a negative word could not be spoken. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. Brent was an active member of First Baptist Church, Bay City for over 55 years. He lived a long, blessed life and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Brent is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry Kirby. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sue Werlla Kirby; his daughters – Terri Thompson of Wadsworth, Shelley and Steve McClelland of Alvin, and Tricia and Bobby McClelland of El Maton; his grandchildren – Kelsey and Bubba Beane, Wittney and RJ Riedel, Kirby Langford and Jamie Wild, Cameron Scott and Thyia Marshall, Trevor Scott, Destiny McClelland, Steven McClelland, April Davenport, Bailey Bealefield and Damien Willhite, and Conner Bealefield. He has nine great-grandchildren – Macy, Kailee, Brent, Gage, Korbin, Landon, Braelynn, Wylder, and Gavin.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00-8:00 pm, Friday, November 25, 2016, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City. The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 26, 2016, at First Baptist Church, Bay City. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
