Bobby Leo "B.L." Finch, 85, of Sweeny passed away May 7, 2014. He was born in Houston, TX to the late Walter Lionel Finch and Hettie Mae Ellis Finch. He was a graduate of Bruni High School in Bruni, TX and attended A & I College in Kingsville, TX and Southwest Texas University in San Marcus, TX.
Bobby spent his younger years working for Humble oil Company in South Texas. He married Mary Madelyne Patterson on January 15, 1955 in Menard, Texas. They moved to Sweeny, TX in 1968 where he started his own business, Finch Water Well Service. Bobby was one of the very first certified water well drillers in the state of Texas. He remained active until his retirement in 2013. He also owned and operated B. L. Finch Oil Production Company in Boling, TX.
He loved to fish, hunt, cook and spend time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Madelyne Finch; daughter Sandra Michelle Nelson & husband Phillip John "P.J."; sons Robert Finch and John Finch & wife Vickie; sister Shirley Mae Burgess; brother-in-law and friend for 61 years, Marvin Brown; grandchildren Jordon Elizabeth Finch, Shelby Nicole Nelson, Philip John Nelson and Christian Cole Nelson . He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Bobby Leon Finch and brothers-in-law John Alger Burgess, James Patterson, David Patterson and Temon Patterson.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor who loved everyone unconditionally.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6pm until 8pm Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Light House Church in West Columbia, TX with Danny Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, TX. Pallbearers will be Marvin Brown, Jr., Tommy Starr, Rich Flora, Larry Davis, Phillip John "P.J." Nelson and Philip Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Brown, Jimmy Heard, Alfred Davis, Jackie Moore, James V. Patterson, Billy Starr and Christian Nelson.
