Robert Perry "Bob" Curtis, 84, was called home peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015 in Bay City, TX. He was born May 20, 1930 in Chicago, IL to the late Robert Joyce Curtis and Maude Mae Lowman Curtis. The family moved to Texas and Bob graduated from Poly High School in Fort Worth, Texas.
Bob attended North Texas Agriculture College (now North Texas University), where he met Laura Lou. He was a leader in the band and reached a rank of colonel in the ROTC program. He went to ROTC camp in Fort Gordon, Georgia and there the "famous" mustache began. Bob later transferred to the University of Texas in Austin and "Lolly" followed him there. He graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor Degree in Music. Laura graduated in 1954 and the following day they were married. She was the love of his life and they were married for almost 60 years.
Bob's first teaching job was in Newton, TX, where they spent 2 years. They moved to Del Rio, TX where their daughter DeeAnne was born in 1964. He then taught in Rock Springs, TX and then while on a fishing trip was interviewed for a teaching job in Bay City, TX. Bob taught at Hilliard School and helped integrate the students to McAllister Jr. High where he became the first band director. He also worked with John Reinke as the assistant to Bay City High School's Blackcat Band. In 1975, Bob became the "infamous" voice the Blackcat Band. He announced the band performance at each football game halftime show which gave everyone a great performance. He taught for a total of 37 years before retiring in 1990. Bob also became interested in photography. First as a hobby in 1975 and then later it became a business. He did family portraits, weddings, senior pictures and so much more. He did this for 25 years and after a quadruple bypass in 2000, he had to retire from it. He has touched so many lives over the years.
After retiring, Bob became involved in Retired Teachers Assoc. and served as president for several years. He was involved in the Bay City Art League and entered some of his pictures in contests where he was rewarded with several high awards. He enjoyed showing off his great works of art. Bob was an active member of the Nichols St. Church of Christ and loved his love for God and all that he has been blessed with. He taught adult classes for many years and was an elder of the church from 1985-2011. He loved showing his love to people and encouraged everyone he came in contact with. Bob was a great inspiration to many people and loved by so many. His love for music and his unconditional spirit of caring will be carried on through his legacy.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Laura Lou Curtis in 2013 Survivors include daughter DeeAnne Myers and husband Charlie from Alvin, TX; grandson Samuel Blackard of Alvin, TX and sister Dr. Joyce Curtis of Abilene, TX.

The family will receive visitors from 5-7pm. Wed. February 11, 2015 at Taylor Bros. Funeral home. The funeral service will be 10:00am Thurs. February 12 at Nichols St. Church of Christ with Bro. Glen Organ and Bro. Larry Macomber officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers are Ross Elkins, Dusty Deitker, Glenn Lee Deitiker, Keith Needham, Jim Popham and Willie Rollins. Honorary pallbearers are John Reinke, Damon Rutherford and Bay City High School's Blackcat Alumni Band.
