Billie Louise Head, 90, of Bay City, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Legacy Nursing Center in Bay City. Miss. Billie was born in Bay City on February 4, 1920 to parents William Henry and Mary Celeste Sansing Head.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Flora Harrison and Josephine Dillard and her long-time companion Miss. Fannie Lou Bishop. She is survived by two nieces, Marian Gerhold of Gladstone Mo. and Jacqueline Dodge of Rockport, Tx., and a nephew, Ralph Harrison of Orlando, Fl. She is also survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews and one great-great-great nephew.
Miss Head spent the early days of World War II working as a mechanic in the Bay City Ford garage. She later joined the Women's Army Air Corp and was honorably discharged as a Tec. Sgt. She served in the Air Force Reserve and was an active member of the American Legion Post 11 in Bay City. She was best known in Bay City as a carpenter and painter and was easily recognized by her little red Ford pick-up truck. Her love of travel took her all across the United States, Canada and Mexico. At age 65 she earned her private pilot's license and enjoyed taking her many friends and family members on jaunts. She was also a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City.
A time of visitation will be held on Monday, May 24 from 10:00 AM until Noon at Bay City Funeral Home and a graveside service will be held on Monday at 2:00 PM at Hawley Cemetery with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating.
She will be missed by her many friends and her loving caretaker, Mrs. Erma Johnican of Bay City.
