William "Bill" Beckman Wiginton passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Matagorda General Hospital. Bill was born August 1, 1930 to Denton Floyd Wiginton and Roxanna Pauline Beckman Wiginton. His early life was spent in El Campo where he and his future wife Patsy spent grades 2 through 4 together until his family moved to Bay City. Bill graduated from Bay City High School and went on to the University of Texas @ Austin where he received a BBA on August 30, 1951. Bill served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Bill and Patsy Kirk were married April 3, 1954 at the Presbyterian Church in El Campo. They have two sons, William Kirk Wiginton and Denton Scott Wiginton. The family moved to Houston where Bill worked as an Insurance Adjuster. They moved back to Bay City in 1960 when Bill joined the family business---Bay City Packing Company. They were members of First United Methodist Church where Bill served on several committees. In addition, he was a member of Rotary Club and Sons of the Republic of Texas. Later, he was elected Matagorda County Tax Assessor-Collector and served 14 years until his retirement in December 2000.
Bill and Patsy enjoyed travelling, in particular to Colorado and trips up the Eastern states, Colonial Williamsburg was always a favorite. He especially enjoyed having lunch every Tuesday with his great friends.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Patsy and his children, Kirk (Gay Lynn), Scott (Nancy) Wiginton. Bill will also be fondly remembered by his 5 grandchildren, Christina (Ben) Venker, Phillip (Megan) Wiginton, Connor (Megan) Wiginton, Michelle Wiginton (friend Ethan Pedneau), and Collin Wiginton. He is preceded in death by parents Denton and Roxie Wiginton, brother
Jack Wiginton and sister Gloria Wiginton Murray.
The family will receive friends and relatives 4:00-6:00pm Wednesday April 18 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Services will be 2:00pm Thursday April 19, 2018 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Russ Munch officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Wilkinson, Vince Maloney, Lamar Evans, Torsten Norman-Peterson, George Deshotels, Mike Pruitt, Tom Uher, Loy Sneary, Mike Wade, Connor Wiginton, Phillip Wiginton, Collin Wiginton and Richard Knapik.
