Billy Joe "Bill" Scurlock, 86, of Palacios passed away June 17, 2016. He was born September 22, 1929 in Luling, Texas to the late Joshua Allen Scurlock and Lila Melinda Harrison Scurlock.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and owned and operated Captain Bill's Seafood in Palacios for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years Betty Lee House Scurlock of Palacios; daughters Jo Linda Scurlock-Dillard & husband Rick of San Antonio and Pamela Lea Scurlock of New Braunfels; sons David Maxwell Scurlock & wife Martha-Leigh of Houston and Thomas Jennings Scurlock & wife Melinda of Katy; sister Barbara Christiansen of Osala, FL; grandchildren Erin Ruddle, Amy Lazarine & husband Matt, Rachel Scurlock-Richardson & husband David and Mary-Kate Scurlock and great grandchildren Elijah, Isaac, Savanah and Penelope Ruddle.

Bill was a successful businessman, husband and father. His career path took him from 20 years of being a commercial painter in Houston to becoming a shrimper, starting in the fall of 1970. In 1979 he moved to Palacios and started Captain Bill's Seafood. He retired from the seafood business in 1997. In retirement he raised cattle until he was no longer physically able to work the fields. He was always active. He loved hard work and hard play. He enjoyed time with his wife and family. Bill governed his life by his abiding faith in Jesus Christ.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5PM until 7PM Monday at the Palacios Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios with Revs. Hollis Hoffman and Chris Webb officiating. Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Tuesday at Woodlawn Garden of Memories in Houston. A reception will be hosted at Houston's First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway following the graveside.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church Palacios Memorial Fund.
