Obituary

Betty Ann Rawlings, 84, of Matagorda, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025.  She was born on December 25, 1940, in Sealy, Texas, to the late John and Bessie Jalowy.

Betty's life was filled with love, service, and a spirit of adventure. She began working at the Cattleman's Café in Sealy, where she met Bill Talaksek of Rosenberg, Texas. They married and later moved to Alaska for Bill's work. After his retirement, they returned to Texas and made their home in Matagorda. A few years later, Bill passed away.  Betty remained in Matagorda, where she met and married Ralph Rawlings. Together, they worked side by side at Rawlings Seafood House until Betty's retirement.

Betty had a deep love for her church and was a devoted member of the congregation. One of her greatest joys was volunteering at the church's food pantry, where she found purpose in serving others and connecting with her community.

She enjoyed traveling and exploring new places across the country. Her favorite pastime was shopping, and she especially loved adding a new purse to her collection. Betty also treasured the companionship of her beloved dog, Sadie, who was always by her side. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bessie Jalowy; her husbands, Bill Talaksek and Ralph Edward Rawlings, Jr.; sisters Lucille Guillott, Helen McNeely, Rose Johnson, Aileen Jalowy, and Louise Jalowy; and brothers Anton, Willie, Johnnie, and Leroy Jalowy.

Betty is survived by her children: Suzanne Belcik; Ralph Edward Rawlings III; Lee Harrison Rawlings and wife Donna; and Luke Rawlings and wife Lisa. She is also survived by her siblings: Irene Kopesky, Shirley Grisham, Ewald Jalowy, and Victor Jalowy; her grandchildren: Amy Rawlings, Courtney Jurek, Gregory Latham, Austin Latham, Maxwell Eastwood, Emma Kreek Rawlings, McCain Rawlings, and Walker Rawlings; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Betty's kind heart, strong faith, and love for her family and community will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the Matagorda Cemetery with Meredith Huggins officiating.
