Betty Sue Johnson Matthews, 73, of Bay City passed away March 13, 2015. She was born January 17, 1942 in Alvin, TX to the late William Parish Johnson and Dorothy Dean Allen Johnson. She was a lock operator for the Army Corps of Engineers in Matagorda, TX for many years.

Her husband Charles Matthews and a brother, Dennis Gryder preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughter Yvonne Bartz (Phil) of Bay City; sister Dorothy Sellers (Clarence) of Brazoria and brother William E. Johnson (Elizabeth) of Van Vleck.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm until 7pm Monday, March 16, 2015 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Van Vleck with Rev. Bob Hobbins officiating. Interment will follow at Matthews Cemetery. If you plan to attend the service, please dress casually. Memorials in her name may be made to the Wounded Warriors or the American Heart Association.
