Bertha Eva "Avie" Brown passed away peacefully at her home in Houston on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the age of 89 years. Avie was born to parents Sandor and Bertha Doszpoly Horvath in Westfield, Texas, on October 21, 1917. She was a long-time resident of Pledger, Texas, where she met her husband, Ernest Wesley Brown, who she married November 29, 1939. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage until his passing in 1984.

Avie was deeply committed to her family, and was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma. She was a devout member of the Pledger Baptist Church with a deep and abiding faith in God and Jesus Christ. Avie enjoyed gardening and derived great pleasure from tending her roses and other beautiful flowers. She was a wonderful cook, particularly of dishes and desserts from her parents' native Hungary. Avie also was an accomplished seamstress, spending countless enjoyable hours designing and sewing for her children and grandchildren. Her gentle, caring nature, ever-present smile and easy laughter will be missed by all the lives she touched.

She is survived by her daughter: Bertha Rudin and husband Fred of Houston; by her son: Ernest Sandor Brown and wife Lori of Houston; by her grandchildren: Michael Rudin and wife Julia of Houston, Michelle Sebesta and husband Jim of Richmond, Sharyl Taylor and husband Kent of Houston, Andrew Brown, Erin Brown and Bethany Brown, all of Houston; great-grandchildren: David Klen, Caitlin Rudin, Skye Rudin, and Cameron Rudin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Avie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Johnny Horvath and Edward Horvath; and sisters: Pearl Horvath and Louise Galloway.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 31, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 1st at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Willard Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.
