Obituary

Ben Weathers, 93, of Cedar Lane, Texas passed away August 9, 2014 in Bay City, Texas peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born on February 18, 1921 in West Columbia, Texas and the fifth of six children to George Washington Weathers and Mahalia "Haley" (Byers) Weathers.

Ben graduated from Bay City High School in 1939, and served his country shortly after during WWII in the Army Air Force, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater from Sept. 1942 to Oct. 1945 in the 765th Bombardment Squadron 461th Group and honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.

On February 26, 1949, he married Mary Magdalene "Maggie" Litzler and to this reunion five children were born, Bennie Jo, Bobbie Lynn, Billie Marie, Bettie Reneau, and Barry Haley.

In his years, he was a farmer and a rancher. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather enjoying the many family gatherings. Many stories were told about his parents, his youth and finally the war which he did not like to talk about as we sat around the camp fire at deer camp.

In his lifetime, not too many days went by that he did not check on the cattle or just ride around in the pastures or woods and look at the wildlife, especially the bald eagles that he watched since being a young boy.

Ben leaves a legacy of cherished memories in our hearts; we will miss him for he was always there for us. His love, discipline and structure of life gave us the foundation to be honest, respectful, and prepared for life. We praise Mom and Dad for the wonderful parents they have been.

Ben is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary "Maggie" Weathers of Cedar Lane, TX; daughters, Bennie Lewis of Bay City, TX, Bobbie Anderson and husband Jim of Pearland, TX, Billie Rosenbaum and husband Ben of Columbus, TX, and Bettie Granberry and husband Kelsey of Bay City, TX; and son, Barry Weathers and wife Laurie of Bay City, TX; sister, Annie Clements of Pearland, TX; 8 grandchildren, Jason Lewis and wife Amber, Tammy Smith and husband Trey, Brian Lewis and wife Robbi, Alicia Saldivar and husband Joe, Amy Moss and husband Terek, Blake Rosenbaum and wife Charity, Jennifer Weathers, and Jerrica Weathers; 10 great grandchildren, Paige Lewis, Noah Lewis, Jaidyn Lewis, Chase Lewis, Hailey Lewis, Brayden Weathers, Kynlee Tucker, Grace Saldivar, Rhett Rosenbaum, and Kayden Moss; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Larry Lewis, brothers Frank Weathers and W.R. Weathers, and sisters Molly Walker and Lillie Walker.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 11, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.
