Obituary

Barbara Grover Morris, born August 12, 1949, in Bay City, Texas, passed away peacefully at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos, Texas, following a courageous 19-year battle with cancer. She was 76 years old.

Barbara’s life was a beautiful testament to resilience, love, faith, and the strength of the human spirit. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth and vibrant spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Courtney Perry Grover Jr. and Marian Bruce Grover; her brother, Courtney Perry Grover III; her sister, Marian Grover; her son, Ronald Floyd Guffey Jr.; and her grandson, Joshua Morris.

She leaves behind her husband, Ben Morris, and her children, Stacey Williams (Randy), Auda Armstrong (UL), and stepson Ben Morris Jr. (Kim). She is also survived by her brother, Bruce Grover, and his wife, Suzanne, with whom she shared a deep and cherished family bond.

Barbara’s greatest joy was her family. She took immense pride in their lives, accomplishments, and happiness. Her legacy continues through her ten treasured grandchildren: Delaney (Colton H), James Colton, Allison, Matthew, Maeghyn, Caleb, Colin, Dakota (Johnny), and Savannah (Chris), as well as her beloved great-grandchild, Weston.

Barbara’s kindness and zest for life extended far beyond her family. She formed lasting friendships throughout her life and treasured the people who became part of her extended family.

For more than eight years, Barbara was an active and beloved member of Chapel in the Cove. She served as president of the church board and participated in numerous church activities, building friendships and sharing fellowship with her church family.

Barbara also enjoyed being involved in her community and social clubs, including the Cypress Cove Women’s Club, JULIETS, and Poker Chicks. She loved gathering with friends, sharing laughter, and making memories. Her adventurous spirit could also be seen in her love of blackjack, poker, and slots.

Barbara had a special love for cooking and canning. She found joy in preparing homemade meals and preserving food to share with the people she loved. Her kitchen was another place where she expressed her love and generosity, creating the kind of comforting memories that her family will carry with them for years to come.

One of Barbara’s greatest creative passions was sewing. Her love for the craft was beautifully reflected in her final project—a quilt lovingly made for her first great-grandchild, Weston. That quilt will serve as a lasting reminder of the love she poured into her family and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

Throughout her 19-year battle with cancer, Barbara demonstrated extraordinary courage, determination, and grace. She faced each challenge with unwavering strength and continued to live her life with love, humor, faith, and purpose. Her journey inspired those around her, and her strength will not be forgotten.

In honor of Barbara’s memory, donations may be made to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, an organization that was close to her heart and reflected the courageous fight she waged for so many years.

Barbara’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, family, friendship, faith, laughter, and resilience. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, in the memories they shared, and in the love she so generously gave.
