Barbara Jean Gates, 69, of Bay City, Texas, passed away on December 30, 2015. Barbara was born on May 21, 1946, in Hallettsville, Texas, to Charles and Pearl Davenport.

Barbara lived a life that reflected her love of family and helping others, with no judgement or hesitation. Whether she just met you or had known you her entire life, her kindness was everlasting. Those who did know her, understood that Barbara could fill a room with laughter, had a passion for cooking, and a green thumb like no other. She will be forever loved, greatly missed, and never forgotten.


Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Charles David Davenport; and her niece, Kim Edwards-Henderson. She is survived by 3 children: Kevin Gates, Brandi Davis & husband David, and Kerri Gates all of Bay City; and 5 grandchildren: Colin Davis, Chandler Davis, Madison Longoria, Naudia Villa and Olivia Villa.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 4, 2016, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City, Texas. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., at Nichols St. Church of Christ in Bay City, Texas with Bro. Matt Springfield. She will be place to rest at Speaks Community Cemetery.
