Obituary

Arturo "Art" Luna Martinez went to be with the Lord June 10, 2011. He was born May 6, 1944 in San Juan, TX to the late Jesus Enriquez Martinez & Trinidad Luna Martinez. He attended Pharr, San Juan & Alamo Schools and graduated from Job Corp in San Antonio. He established A-M Forklift Service in 1980. He enjoyed spreading the gospel, reading the Bible, eating good food and sharing his life with everyone.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church; member of Men's Bible Studies on Tuesday at Diamond S; member of Men's Bible Studies on Friday at Matagorda General Hospital; member of Gideon's International since 1981 & served in several positions; worked with Kairos Prison Ministry & Epiphany Prison Ministry and enjoyed taking Mission Trips to Mexico.

His son, Art R "Tudi" Martinez and brother Juan R. Martinez preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Julia Garcia Martinez; son Joe L. Martinez; daughter Laura Spurr & husband Stanley; grandchildren Kristen Martinez, Robert Blake Martinez, Jared Martinez, Devin Cervantes-Martinez, Kennedy Thompson, Reagan Thompson & Julia Green; sisters Berta Gorgas & husband John & Oralia Herrera; brothers Jose Francisco Martinez & wife Juanita, Artemio Martinez & wife Sandra, Ruben Martinez & wife Nancy and Jesus Martinez & wife Paula; sister-in-law Lupita Martinez and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Zimmerman & Dr. Ruben Martinez officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Devin Cervantes-Martinez, Jared Martinez, Robert Blake Martinez, Stanley Spurr, Jr., Heath Thompson, Grant Martinez and Robert Lopez. The men from Art's Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Gideon's International or Coastal Plains Camp.
