Obituary

Arthur Lee Lawrence, 81, of Bay City, TX passed away peacefully on Friday September 18, 2026, in Palacios, TX. He was born on October 31, 1944, to the late Johnny and Dora Lee Lawrence.

He grew up in Vanderbilt, TX and graduated from Edna High School in 1963. Upon graduating high school, he joined the US Army where he proudly served his country as a Military Police Officer in Germany for four years. After returning home from service, he met the love of his life, Margaret (Kaspar), who he married and spent the last 59 years of his life with.

Arthur has been a staple in the Matagorda County community; most notably serving as a Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden for 42 years, spending the last 34 of those years in Matagorda County. Upon retirement, he became a Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Deputy. He loved what he did and famously told everyone he never worked a day in his life. In his free time, he enjoyed working out and even participated in the Senior Olympics throwing javelin and discus.

Arthur was known by his friends and family for his tall stature, which was fitting for his larger-than-life personality. He left an impression on everyone with his quick wit and impeccable sense of humor. The only thing he loved more than spending time outdoors hunting and fishing was being with his family. He was a proud husband, father, and papa.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind by his loving wife, Margaret; his two daughters, Vicki (Gordon) Sorey and Traci (Drew) Richards, all of Bay City, TX. He is survived by four grandchildren, Brooke (Michael) Dziuk of Rosenberg, TX, Andrew (Madeline) Richards of Dallas, TX, Jordan Patton of Bay City, TX, and Stella Sorey of Bay City, TX. He is also survived by his three brothers, Roy (Stacy) Lawrence of Bothell, WA, Benny Lawrence of Edna, TX, and Johnny (Betty) Lawrence of Houston, TX.

The family will receive relatives and friends for visitation at 9:00am Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 9:30am and Mass will begin at 10:00am with Father Stephen Vacek officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, Texas.

The family would like to thank Angels Home Health Care and Grow in Grace Senior Living for their exceptional care.
