Alvin Clarence Davis, Jr., beloved husband, Dad and PawPaw, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 91 on December 9, 2023.
A.C. was born Friday the 13th of May 1932 in New Gulf, Texas to Alvin Davis, Sr. and Orene Baker Davis. Upon graduation from Van Vleck High School in 1949, he enlisted in the US Army Air Forces. He married the love of his life Bernice Ledwig in October 1956, and they, with their four children, traveled the world through his service. Upon retiring from the Air Force after 22 years, A.C. brought his family back to Bay city where he worked and retired from Celanese.
He loved spending time with his family, his dachshunds, visiting his camp house in El Maton, watching the Astros, fishing, hunting, golfing, dancing with his sweetheart and reading almost every western at the public library.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Winona Hutcherson, brother Sammy Davis and son-in-law John P. Miller.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bernice Davis; children Barbara Miller, Russell Davis, Karen Broussard (David) and Randy Davis (Jeri); 9 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Nichols Street Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM with Steve Malone officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be John Miller, Michael Davis, Richard Kizer, Josh Wagner, Kevin Jones and Shawn Breton.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Angels Care Hospice and caregiver Emma Garcia.
